Union Stationtrain station 3

"The Main Terminal for the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Atlantic (B.C.&A.) Railroad was located in Berlin, immediately behind the present site of the Berlin Fire Hall. The railroad-station was built about 1905-1906 after several prominent businessmen led by Lemuel Showell founded the railroad which initially ran from Berlin to Salisbury. In its heyday prior to WWI, between five to seven trains per day would arrive in Berlin. The station was torn down in the late 1950's. "

Berlin's first railroad
"The first handcar to travel over Berlin's first railroad line was in 1867. The crank type hand car that made that first trip and crew and passengers are shown here after arriving in Berlin from Salisbury. The lower compartment in the front of the hand car was for carrying lunch boxes. The tracks were first laid from Berlin to Salisbury, with Berlin as the headquarters. Known as the 'Pokomoke-Salisbury Railroad', it made one trip daily between the two points carrying freight and passengers. Shown above are (l to r) Burgen Brittingham, foreman;Dewitt Hancock, William R. Adkins, Richard Holloway and Stanley Parsons."
