William D. Pitts was a land surveyor and amateur historian for many years in the Berlin area.  He  maintained and used the survey records of his father and those of Daniel Hudson who had preceded him as County Surveyor.

The William D. Pitts Collection of survey records is housed in the Snow Hill Branch of the Worcester County Library and is considered to be the most complete set of survey records in the country.

The furnishings from Mr. Pitts' office were donated by Margaret Pitts Calhoun, his daughter, and her daughters, and are presented as they were found at the time if his death.
